Non-plain papers

I have already reported receiving a letter on paper with rather strange printed wording/quotes.
"Being relieved will improve human relations."
Well, the latest strange paper has "Space Bonjour Will experience in a mysterious universe mustache" whatever that is supposed to mean. Lost in translation perhaps?
At least the Diddl paper has just drawings and no silly wording (any silly wording then is down to me).

Stingray, Fireball XL5....

Recently, I found a post office with some of the older issues of stamps. I was able to buy some.

This is the latest purchase from the little post office (not the one I used to go to on the first day of issue, that has now closed). The Genius of Gerry Anderson (I have watched Fireball XL5 and Stingray but do not recall Supercar), and also one of the crown jewels.

One of my penfriends decorates her letters with stamps. I keep forgetting to decorate with stickers.

Some March post

I have still been receiving letters, some through InCoWriMo. I just love the range of stamps used.

Germany has some poignant designs as well as the pretty flowers. Thepenfriend sent this also sent
cute Easter stamps on a letter last year.
The USA also produces some nice postage stamps. Notice the one US stamp celebrates the Magna Carta.
There are also some nice cancellation / postmarks. I loved the outdoors today as it was sunny and was able to potter about in the garden.
Even Royal Mail has some postmarks. I didn't know today is the end of British Science Week before reading the postmark.

Women of Letters

A tweet appeared on my twitter feed with a link to the USPS stamps blog for an entry about Women of Letters found here. This group aims to revive letter writing and their own website at http://womenofletters.com.au/ says

Women of Letters is an afternoon that celebrates a diverse range of strong female talent whilst simultaneously raising funds for Victorian animal rescue shelter, Edgar’s Mission.
Co-curated by Marieke Hardy and Michaela McGuire, the monthly occasion brings together five of Melbourne’s best and brightest writers, musicians, politicians and comedians in celebration of the beautiful lost art of letter-writing.

There are events not only in Australia, but there's one in NY, USA today.

Sounds like a great idea. Also, there are groups out there who have letter writing socials in cafes and other places. I would love to host one in North Wales, perhaps in Llandudno some day.

Going Postal

I have already started to re-read the Discworld series, created by the most wonderful Terry Pratchett. His death was announced today.

So, InCoWriMo has finished for another year

... and I'm feeling a little sad it is over. I enjoyed the correspondence greatly over the period, not just the receiving but also the writing to new people. I shall continue replying to the letters I have received but perhaps some of the InCoWriMo participants may feel left out having not received a letter from me... why didn't I surprise them? Perhaps I feel a little left out having not received letters from "everybody" - why didn't someone pick me? Maybe I should surprise a few people this week.

Bridge to Tea.

Yesterday, a new issue of stamps was released from Royal Mail - Bridges. I bought some of the stamps and noticed one of the bridges was in my area. I hopped on a couple of buses and came to Menai Bridge town and thought I would try to take a picture of the stamp with the bridge. It was a little windy so I left the sheet in the box folder. I didn't get the exact angle right but then it was windy and chilly.

I took shelter in a cafe and had something to eat and a pot of tea. I wrote a reply to an InCoWriMo letter.

Panic over - a site was down but is up again.

One of my favourite forums is currently down, FPGeeks and also the InCoWriMo site too but the comments on that site are still available on disqus. InCoWriMo2015 I've also removed my address from there while I was still able to.

Edit, FPGeeks is back up. FPGeeks forum
